Pizza Cheese Stick Twists

If you love pizza then you will have this appetizer on repeat! It’s crispy, flaky and filled with all your favorite pizza toppings. Grab your favorite marinara sauce or ranch, dip and enjoy like you would a slice of cheesy pizza.

These pizza cheese stick twists are really easy to make and only require a few ingredients. You can always switch up the toppings or add others like olives, blue cheese, mushrooms, spicy oil, the options are limitless! All you have to do is roll out the pastry and cut it into strips, sprinkle it with your favorite pizza toppings and more cheese and twist it into pretty spirals. You can’t mess these up. You can even prep the cheese twists ahead of time, then pop them in the oven just before people come over so they're hot and crispy.

Ingredients for Pizza cheese stick twists

You all loved my original cheese stick twist recipe so here is another one to make!

If you like pizza and loads of cheese then you will love dipping these into your favorite sauce. Every day that I came home from school as a kid, I either wanted a pizza lunchable or a pizza pocket so anything pizza, no matter how old or young you are, will ALWAYS be a hit! Serve these at your next dinner party, for an afterschool snack, game day, an outdoor bbq, they are good any day of the week.

You can also mix up the toppings you use and feel free to use any cheese you have extra or laying around in your cheese drawer. This recipe is a great way to use up left over cheese!

Find the ingredients below so you can make these:

  • Puff pastry sheets

  • Tomato sauce

  • Mozzarella cheese

  • Pepperoni

  • Parmesan cheese

  • Egg

  • fresh basil (optional garnish)

I always recommend using freshly grated mozzarella cheese- it makes a big difference especially in the taste, flavor and when you are melting it. That pre-shredded cheese you buy from the store has a coating on it preventing it from going bad and this coating affects how it melts which means it never melts the same as freshly grated. Trust me, it’s always worth it!

These twisty puff pastry cheese twists are the perfect thing to pop in the oven if you have people over for a dinner party or casual get together! One of my FAVORITE appetizer to serve up for Super Bowl Sunday or game day!

My favorite way to serve them up is with a warm marinara sauce or ranch dressing! Try hot honey, garlic dip or even Caesar dressing would be great with these.

Ingredients

  • two sheets of puff pastry
  • 1 cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • 1/3 cup tomato sauce
  • pepperoni
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg (egg wash)
  • fresh basil (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 375 F and lay out your puff pastry sheet on a the counter or a cutting board
  2. Spoon on and spread out your tomato sauce- you want to make sure you have a thin even layer, do not add on too much or they might get soggy after baked
  3. Add on your pepperoni and shredded mozzarella cheese (feel free to add on other pizza toppings as well if you'd like)
  4. Lay another puff pastry sheet on top and then press it down or roll it out to make sure everything is together
  5. Then add the egg wash on top of your puff pastry sheet and sprinkle on some Parmesan cheese
  6. Cut into strips (you can use a knife but I found it easiest to use a pizza cutter)
  7. Then twist each strip and put on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper
  8. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and serve right away
  9. I like to serve alongside a warm marinara sauce and some ranch!

Notes

  • TIP: always roll your puff pastry sheet outs with a rolling pin before making this to make it a bit thinner
  • Feel free to use garlic butter instead of an egg for the wash to brush onto the pastry
  • Feel free to add on other pizza toppings if you'd like!

I found it easiest to cut these strips using a pizza cutter but you could also use a knife
