This is one of those appetizers that you will be making on repeat! This super simple recipe uses frozen puff pastry so there's no dough to make. Golden, flaky, and extremely versatile and great for dipping into your favorite sauce.

Everyone loves cheese so why not transform your leftover cheese in your cheese drawer into these super simple cheese twists! All you have to do is roll out the pastry and cut it into strips, sprinkle it with cheese and more cheese and twist it into pretty spirals. It really is that easy! You can’t mess these up. You can even prep the cheese straws ahead of time, then pop them in the oven just before guests arrive so they're hot and crispy.

Ingredients for cheese stick twists

Its hard to believe that something so delicious is SO easy to make with only a few ingredients. You can also mix up the cheeses you use and just use any cheese you have extra or laying around in your cheese drawer. Its a great way to use up left over cheese!

Find the ingredients below so you can make these:

  • Puff pastry sheet

  • Gruyère cheese

  • Parmesan cheese

  • Egg

  • fresh parsley (optional garnish)

These twisty puff pastry cheese twists are the perfect thing to pop in the oven if you have people over for a dinner party or casual get together! One of my FAVORITE appetizer to serve up for Super Bowl Sunday or game day!

My favorite way to serve them up is with a warm marinara sauce or ranch dressing! Even Caesar dressing would be great with these.

Cheese Stick Twists

This is one of those appetizers that you will be making on repeat! This super simple recipe uses frozen puff pastry so there's no dough to make. Golden, flaky, and extremely versatile and great for dipping into your favorite sauce.

Ingredients

  • two puff pastry sheets
  • 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg (egg wash)
  • fresh parsley (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 375 F and lay out one of your puff pastry sheets on a the counter or a cutting board
  2. Sprinkle half your Gruyère cheese and parmesan cheese onto the puff pastry sheet
  3. Fold the puff pastry sheet in half and roll out with a rolling pin (or press down using your hands) to press everything down ensuring the cheese does not fall out of the puff pastry sheet
  4. Then add on your egg wash on top of your puff pastry sheet and sprinkle on the remainder of your Gruyère cheese and Parmesan cheese
  5. Cut into strips (you can use a knife but I found it easiest to use a pizza cutter)
  6. Then twist each strip and put on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and serve right away!

Notes

  • Serve with warm marinara sauce or ranch or enjoy on their own!
  • You can prep these ahead of time (up to a day in advance) and then pop into the oven before people come over
  • This recipe makes enough for 5 people (two sticks each) make double if you want more!
